KUALA LUMPUR:Malaysia recorded the highest daily COVID-19 case when a total of 4,029 positive cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

Director-General of Health, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said, of the total, 4,021 were cases of local infection while eight more were cases of imports.

With the increase, it brings the total number of active cases currently being treated to 37,126 cases with 205 currently in intensive care units (ICUs) and 79 cases requiring respiratory aid.

"Selangor reported the highest new daily cases during the week, which was 1,466 cases (36.4 per cent).

"Of these, 1,161 cases (79.2 per cent) are from clusters and COVID-19 close contact screening actively conducted in the field.

"This is followed by Johor with 719 cases (17.8 per cent) and Sabah with 449 cases (11.1 per cent)," he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, eight more deaths were recorded with 2,148 recovering in the last 24 hours.

Four of the deaths occurred in Sabah and one each in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Perak and Penang. All the victims, aged between 40 and 78, had a history of illnesses
