A driving school instructor died while his mother was seriously injured when the car they were travelling in was hit by a winch which was believed to have fallen from a heavy vehicle at Kilometer 91, Jalan Kuantan-Kuala Lumpur, in Maran near here yesterday.

Pahang Traffic Investigations and Enforcement Department chief Supt Kamarulzaman Jusoh said in the accident which occurred at 9.45 p.m., Mohd Faizal Ismail, 38, from Felda Jengka 6, Maran was driving a Perodia Axia.

The accident also caused his mother Fatimah Mat Hussain, 72, to incur head injuries and a broken left wrist.

"The winch was believed to have hit the top of the victim’s car, causing severe damage to the roof, while the front windscreen was smashed and the bonnet badly crushed.

“The victim who suffered severe head injuries was confirmed dead at the location,” Kamarulzaman said when contacted here today.

He added that police have yet to identify the heavy vehicle which was transporting the winch and urged witnesses to come forward to help in the investigations.

Mohd Faizal’s remains have been sent to the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital in Temerloh about 107 kilometres from here, for a post-mortem.
