A factory worker was shocked when he found a baby boy left on his car bonnet in Kampung Bukit, Bayan Lepas here early today.

Southwest district deputy police chief DSP Siti Nor Salawati Saad said the man, who had just returned from a night shift, was surprised to hear a baby crying when he reached home.

"The baby boy, wrapped with a bedsheet is believed to be newly born as the umbilical cord was still attached to the infant," she told reporters here today.

The baby, who appeared normal without any blood stain or injury, was later sent to the Penang Hospital for further examination.

Nor Salawati said police were tracking down the suspect and the bedsheet had been taken for DNA test.
She called on clinics and hospitals which had been approached by a woman who had just delivered in a suspicious manner to contact the nearest police station to assist investigation.
