Five people were injured in a fire caused by a leaking gas cylinder tube in a nasi kandar restaurant in Jalan Pahang, Tapah, about 50 kilometres from here this morning.

Tapah Fire and Rescue Station Operations Chief, Hariri Kamaruddin said an emergency call was made to the station at 7.33am and firefighters put out the fire about an hour later.

He said the injured victims included the restaurant owner's wife and son, as well as three foreign workers.

"At the time of the incident, all the victims were cooking in the kitchen of the restaurant before sparks caused a fire due to a leaking gas cylinder tube.

"The fire hit the five victims who were near a rice cooker," he said when contacted here today.

However, the fire did not affect the entire restaurant building and all the victims were sent to the Tapah Hospital for further treatment. -- BERNAMA
