The government will build 500 units of houses under the People's Housing Project (PPR) in the Tanjung Batu state constituency this year, said state assemblyman Datuk Hamisa Samat.

She said the housing project, announced by Sabah Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Hajiji Mohd Noor, reflected the caring attitude of the state government led by the Barisan Nasional (BN) in meeting the needs of the people.

"The BN government has always been sensitive to the problems faced by the people,” she said in a statement when commenting on a fire at Kampung Tanjung Batu Darat on Wednesday.

Three houses were razed and two others were damaged in the fire, which affected five families.

Hamisa said the commitment of the BN to take care of the people was backed with action rather than empty talk.

She said the BN provided not only housing but other amenities such as roads and other infrastructure and education for the people in the rural and interior
areas.
