The police seized a hand grenade, an assortment of bullets and a samurai sword from a flat in Machang Bubuk here on Sunday .

They also arrested six people, including two women, aged between 21 and 48.

Penang CID chief SAC Mazlan Kesah said a few of them tried in vain to flee the scene as the Seberang Perai Tengah police had cordoned the area in the 1.30am operation which was prompted by a tip-off and intelligence.

He said the police found a hand grenade, 10 silver (NCCR .38 SPL) and yellow (THAI ARMS .38 SPL) bullets and a samurai sword engraved with the image of a dragon from the flat unit.

Mazlan said two of the men were on the police wanted list while the others had criminal records.

"They have been remanded to enable the police to check whether they are linked to any secret society or involved in criminal activities," he said when contacted.

It is learned that those arrested were members of a drug trafficking syndicate and the house became their hideout.
