Fifteen New Year babies, comprising eight boys and seven girls, were born at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) here as at 4pm today.

The first, Damia Afizah bt Darussalam, weighing 3.14kg, was born to parents Azleeza Zulkifli, 24, and Darussalam Irma, 26, at 1.22am.

"The birth of our daughter is the most precious gift because yesterday (Dec 31) I celebrated my birthday," Azleeza said.

The same happiness was experienced by Noor Akma Syakila Mohd Jamil, 23, and husband, Muhd Azlee Ismail, 24, who welcomed their third child, Muhd Ammar Darwisy at 9.55am.

Noor Akma said besides Muhd Ammar, their second child was also born on Jan 1 two years ago and they accepted all this with an open heart and joy.

A survey by Bernama this evening found 12 New Year babies were born at the Sungai Buloh Hospital (HSB), followed by 16 at the Ampang Hospital, Putrajaya Hospital (seven), Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur (two) and two at the Ampang Puteri Hospital.

HSB welcomed the first New Year baby, a boy, at 12.08am to a couple from Brunei.
