Opposition leader Lim Kit Siang wants an emergency Parliament before August 31 to appoint a new Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman.

He said this would allow the probe into 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) to be continued.

“There is no reason why the special Parliament meeting could not be held this month before Merdeka Day celebrations as the some 75 Members of Parliament from DAP, PKR and Gerakan Harapan Baru stand in readiness to attend a special Parliamentary meeting for this purpose,” he said in press statement today.

He also urged the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday to decide on the convening of an Emergency Parliament before Aug 31 to appoint the new PAC Chairman.

He claimed the PAC was sabotaged from continuing with its investigations into 1MDB scandal with the appointment of PAC chief and three others as Minister and deputy ministers in the recent Cabinet reshuffle.

PAC chairman Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed relinquished his position following his appointment as Deputy Home Minister.

Apart from Nur Jazlan, other PAC members who have been appointed into the Cabinet are Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin and Datuk Wilfred Madius Tangau.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia on July 30 said all PAC proceedings must be postponed until a new chairman has been appointed.
