Home Ministry will announce the list of triad gangs to the public
The Home Ministry (KDN) will soon announce the list of triad gangs and the crimes committed by their members.
Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the list of triad gangs will be announced after they are gazetted.
"We already have the list of triads categorised as illegal organisations and the crimes committed," he told reporters after receiving US congressman Eni Faleomavaega, here today.
Ahmad Zahid said public disclosure of the triad gangs would allow the people to understand that the police are committed in the fight against crime.
"It is also to raise awareness that the public should jointly support police efforts against crime.
"Via the list, the people will realise that triad activities do not only involve one race but also the other races.
"Many people say that triads only involve the Indians. This is not so as the Malays and the Chinese have many triad gangs," he said commenting on Ops Cantas being conducted nationwide.
Ahmad Zahid said that the security of the people is more important than taking care of criminals fitted with electronic monitoring device (EMD). "It is not about human rights but how to identify them and to ensure security in this country."
The move to put EMD on criminals detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA) had received strong criticisms. The EMD is to detect organised crime suspects to ensure that they do not commit crimes while on bail.
