A Kedah Regional Development Authority (KEDA) administrative officer was today charged for seeking sexual gratification as inducement to help in approving a home application under the Hardcore Poor Housing Scheme (PPRT) in the state.
On the first count, Heris Saad, 56, was charged with soliciting for a bribe in the form of a sexual favour from a single mother as inducement to expedite her PPRT application process.
The offence was allegedly committed at the Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet, Jalan Limbong Kapal, here, on Nov 10 at about 12.30 pm.
Heris is also accused of seeking sexual favour from the single mother as inducement for the same purpose on Nov 13 at Royale Hotel in Jalan Putra, here, at about 2.45pm.
On the first count, he was charged under Section 16(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 which provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, if convicted.
He was also charged under Section 17 (a) of the MACC Act 2009 which carries a prison sentence of up to 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, for the second offence.
The accused who was represented by lawyer Amir Faliq Mohd Jamil, nodded when the charge against him was read.
Judge Azhar Mokhtar set Dec 30 for re-mention of the case and preparation of documents.
MACC Deputy Public Prosecutor, Syahrul Khuzaimi Amiruddin appeared for the prosecution.
