KOTA BAHARU : Kelantan government departments and agencies are gearing up for the possibility of a second wave of floods during the current Monsoon season.

Kelantan Disaster Relief Committee deputy chairman Datuk Makhtar Mustapha said, 729 evacuation centres had been identified while essential supplies were being stockpiled.

"We have dispatched supplies such as food and mats to 170 forward bases in preparation for the floods," he told reporters after chairing a state-level flood relief meeting here today.

Makhtar, who is also the Kelantan Federal Development Department director, said no major problems were encountered in relief operations during the first wave of floods in the state due to concerted action from all quarters.

He advised residents in flood-prone areas to obey the instructions given by the authorities and be prepared for evacuation.

A total of 3,718 people from 1,165 families in the Pasir Mas, Kuala Krai, Pasir Puteh, Tumpat, Tanah Merah and Machang districts sought refuge during the first wave of floods early this month.
