The Malaysia government is planning to build 'Youth City' a township to cater to the needs and lifestyle of those aged between 18 and 40 years-old via a collaboration with the Malaysia Blue Ocean Strategy Institute.

Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said the idea is still in its infancy.

“We are targeting to develop some new friendly youth neighbourhoods. We are also planning to build the youth cities nearby to Klang Valley so the youth easy to manage their business to the main city centre," said Abdul Rahman.

His administration, said Abdul Rahman is co-operating with the Ministry of Youth and Sports to conduct viable research on relevant youth-friendly residential areas.

He said the the planning to develop two cities in Peninsular Malaysia and each in Sabah and Sarawak will take place on government land or private-owned tracts.

“We will build the houses with standard like studio apartment size, conducive, lower property prices that fulfil the youth taste” he said during a press conference after the launch of the 6th International Conference on World Class Sustainable Cities (WCSC) 2014 at Kuala Lumpur today.

WCSC 2014 aimed at learning from best practices around the world on elements and factors necessary to make for World Class Sustainable Cities was attended by more 500 participants.

The conference was organize by the Real Estate & Housing Developers’ Association Kuala Lumpur (REHDA KL), the Malaysia Institute of Planners (MIP) and the Institute of Architects Malaysia (PAM) with the support of City Hall Kuala Lumpur.

Before this the government established Perbadanan PR1MA Malaysia (PR1MA) under the PR1MA Act 2012 to plan, develop, construct and maintain high-quality housing with lifestyle concepts for middle-income households in key urban centres.
