Police detained a 20-year-old man on Tuesday to facilitate investigations on the molestation of a six-year-old girl at Taman Kota Jaya, near Kota Tinggi.

Johor police chief, Datuk Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said the man was remanded at about 5.24pm at Kota Tinggi police station.

He said the unemployed man was detained after giving his statement at the police station.

"The suspect is now being held under remand until this Saturday to aid in follow up investigations conducted," he said in a statement yesterday.

In this regard, Wan Ahmad Najmuddin urged parents to always monitor the whereabouts of their children, especially the young ones.

He also reminded parents to be careful with their own family members or caregivers so that their children will not fall prey to sexual perpetrators.

He urged parents to establish close ties with their children so that they will not be shy or afraid to confide about their problems.
