Bukit Aman Special Branch Counter-Terrorism (E8) on Friday detained a man suspected to be involved in Daish militant activities.

The man was detained at LRT Jelatek station, Ampang with weapons and documents related to Daish or the Islamic State.

This was confirmed by Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar through his Twitter account.



Meanwhile a senior police officer told Astro AWANI a statement on the matter will be released soon.

Khalid had in a statement before this announced that the police had been stepping up preventive measures to pre-empt terrorism incidents in Malaysia over the last few months following several terrorist-related incidents that had taken place around the globe.

He said increased security measures had been put in place at public places such as shopping malls and tourist spots.

"Extra precautionary measures will be implemented in the border areas to prevent possible infiltration by terrorist elements," he had said.

Khalid said those on the police radar suspected to be related to terrorist activities would be monitored closely.

He assured the people that all police personnel nationwide were on constant vigilance.
