Police and Fire and Rescue personnel managed to prevent a man who has two wives and facing a domestic crisis from jumping out from the Third Floor of Menara Dewan Suarah here Monday.

Prior to the arrival of the rescuers, security guards at the building had tried to stop the 32-year-old man, who hails from Kampung Siol Kandis near here, but he brandished a knife at them.

Kuching police chief ACP Roslan Bek Ahmad said police together with a Fire and Rescue team rushed to the scene on being alerted on the case at 3.30pm.

"They tried to talk to him not to jump but he did not give any response. After almost an hour of talking to him, his guard was down and firemen took the opportunity to grab his collar and prise away the knife before bringing him to safety," he told Bernama.

He said the man, a private sector employee in the Information Technology sector, was having domestic problems and had not returned home for three months to see his wives and two children.

"Both wives have been contacted. Investigation papers have also been opened regarding the case for action to be taken against him," said Roslan.

Meanwhile, state Fire and Rescue senior assistant superintendent Tan Min Chai said seven firemen from the Lintang fire station were involved in the operation.

"The swiftness and efficieny of the Police/Fire and Rescue team helped save the situation," he said.
