SHAH ALAM: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced today that he will not defend his presidency in the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) elections scheduled for next year.

He said the decision was made to pave the way for Bersatu future leaders to helm the party.

"This is the last time I stand on this stage as the president of the party.

"Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to apologise to all Bersatu leaders and members if I have committed any mistakes during my time as president. Take good care of this party," he told a press conference after delivering his policy speech at Bersatu's annual general meeting at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) here.

Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin at the same press conference, however, said Muhyiddin's announcement was still at the proposal stage and had not yet been approved by the party's Supreme Leadership Council.
