The nomination of a Malaysian teacher among 50 teachers shortlisted for the Global Teacher Prize organised by Varkey GEMS Foundation is recognition of the quality of our teachers.

Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said the nomination of Yasmin Noorul Amin, 38, was a proud moment and should be emulated by other teachers in this country.

"Congratulations to Cikgu Yasmin on her nomination as the best teacher. This recognition is something that we can be proud of. We wish her all the success," he told Bernama.

Yasmin, a chemistry teacher from SMK La Salle, Petaling Jaya was shortlisted for the award under the foundation based in Dubai which offers the grand prize of US$1 million to the winner.
