TAIPING: The Magistrate's Court here today set Oct 25 for sentencing of a single mother who pleaded guilty to negligence in guarding her pet dog, resulting in a 12-year-old girl to be injured by it in an incident last July.

K. Saroja Devi, 46, made the plea after the charge was read out to her before Magistrate Adibah Abdul Kadir.

The woman, who is a cook and has seven children aged between 11 and 22, was charged with committing the offence, which resulted in her pet dog to cause injury on Nurilmi Natrah Mohd Muzri, in front of a house in Lorong Satu, Kampung Larut Tin Sambungan here at about 5 pm last July 10.

The charge, under Section 289 of the Penal Code, provides an imprisonment for up to six month and maximum fine of RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.

The woman, represented by lawyer Siti Hajar Hamzah, from the National Legal Aid Foundation, was allowed bail of RM500 with one surety.

Deputy public prosecutor Nur Faakihin Ahmad Fauzi prosecuted.
