One person was killed and at least 34 people were injured when an express bus rammed into a lorry parked by the roadside after experiencing a breakdown at Kilometer 285, North-South Highway near Simpang Pulai here early this morning.

Simpang Pulai Fire and Rescue Department head of operation Abd Manaf Hashim in a statement said, the department received an emergency call about the accident at 4.30am.

According to him, as soon as the fire engine arrived at the scene, they found a victim pinned under the truck tyres, the bus driver who was thrown out of his vehicle.

He said, they managed to pull out the bus driver, but he was confirmed dead by the hospital.

Further inspection found that three passengers suffered serious injuries.

A total of 31 victims, including an infant, reportedly suffered minor injuries and were sent to the hospital.
