Perak police are conducting a study to identify the health and fitness level of its personnel, said acting state police chief Datuk Hasnan Hassan.

He said it was being carried out to obtain information on the number of personnel who are fit, in good health or otherwise.

"Policemen are required to provide information on themselves and we want to know how many are fit and how many are not," he told reporters after a Perak Contingent Monthly Assembly here today.

He said the level of health and fitness of police personnel is important as it is one of the criteria for promotion and confirmation of posts as announced by the Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.

According to Hasnan, so far police have not sent any personnel to undergo specific training, but they are required to attend activities such as exercise and talks held at 3pm to 5pm every Friday.

In December last year, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi directed all police officers and staff to undergo annual health screening.

The order was issued to ensure the physical and mental health of police personnel are at the optimum level to serve the people and the nation. - BERNAMA
