The Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) launched the affordable housing project 'Rumah Selangorku Idaman PKNS Kota Puteri' to help lower and middle income earners to own houses at reasonable prices.

PKNS public relations manager Ishak Hashim said the fifth affordable housing project initiated by the corporation was in line with the state government's commitment to build more affordable homes in Selangor.

"This is the most important year because it is the first in a five-year phase of building 7,500 units of affordable houses.

"The building of more affordable homes is also in line with the state government's intention of building 15,000 units of Rumah Selangorku within three years," he said in a statement on Thursday.

According to Ishak, the housing project which was located in Section 5, Kota Puteri involved the building of 198 units using the townhouse concept and would be sold for between 180,000 and 220,000 per unit depending on its area size.

He said for those who prioritised comfort, the project that would be launched in the market towards the end of 2016 was the best choice as it was landed property with a density of 23 units per acre, making them fairly large residential units at reasonable prices.

"Each unit will have a modern design with a floor area of 940 to 1,040 sq ft and with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, and there will be two special units built for the disabled," he said.

Ishak explained that the initial screening to determine potential buyers were fully controlled by the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS) and he encouraged those who were interested to register with the LPHS besides meeting the terms set in the state's affordable housing policy.

Ishak said among the terms to apply for such a house were a collective household income of not more than RM8,000 per month; not owning any other home in Selangor, and the primary reason of the purchase was to live in the premises and not for it to be rented out.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the said housing project was earlier officiated by Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali, in the presence of PKNS general manager Azlan Md Alifiah.
