Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today visited flood victims in the district of Kuala Terengganu.

He spent time to mingle with the occupants of two flood evacuation centres namely at Sekolah Kebangsaan Banggol Peradong, here and Sekolah Kebangsaaan Bukit Guntong, Kuala Nerus.

The visit by the national leader, who was accompanied by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman and Chairman of the National Agency for Disaster Management Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, clearly cheered up the victims who had been evacuated to the centre for the past three days.

A total of 461 victims from 112 families were placed at the Sek Keb Banggol Peradong while 422 victims from 96 families were at the Sek Keb Guntong.

Zubaidah Ali, 52, when approached by reporters, said Najib's visit was most meaningful even though the visit was brief as it demonstrated the concern of the leader for the people.

Zubaidah, together with 10 of her family members, moved to the Sek Keb Bukit Banggol evacuation centre as her house in Kampung Telari was flooded under about three feet of water.

"Usually, we see the prime minister on television, but today we could see him and in fact his hospitality had cheered us up, even if it was for a brief moment," she said. -- BERNAMA
