Three non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have urged the police to take action against Hindu Rights Action Front (Hindraf) who is allegedly trying to incite the Indian community to hold a mass protest at a Hindu temple in Butterworth on May 21.

Penang Dakwah Islamiah Welfare Organisation (Pekida) chairman Mohd Hilme Ibrahim said the planned protest was against Perlis Mufti, Assoc Prof Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin and famous preacher Dr Zakir Naik.

"Two banners hung in Jalan Telaga Air and Prai, Butterworth incited the Indians to hold a protest against Dr Mohd Asri and Dr Zakir. The banners are seditious in nature .

"The protest will cause tension between races and religions and threaten national unity. We hope the police will prevent the protest for the sake of national security," he told reporters after lodging a police report at Seberang Perai Tengah police headquarters, here today.

The other NGOs which lodged police reports were Penang Perkasa and the Penang Single Mothers Association.
