BATU PAHAT: Professor Dr Ruzairi Abdul Rahim has been appointed as the new vice-chancellor of Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) effective today.

In a statement today, the UTHM Marketing and Corporate Communication Office said the three-year appointment until May 8, 2025 was made by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad.

Ruzairi, 55, succeeds Professor Datuk Dr Wahid Razzaly, whose term has expired.

"Before this, Ruzairi was a professor in Electronic Instrumentation Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in Skudai in 1998, serving as its Engineering Faculty dean.

"He was appointed as the UTHM deputy vice-chancellor (research and innovation) for three years, from Dec 1, 2016 to Nov 30, 2019," the statement said.


He was named the Top Research Scientist Malaysia in 2013 by the Academy of Sciences Malaysia..

Ruzairi has won 45 awards at the university and international levels and supervised 30 PhD students and research projects, apart from being actively involved in the writing and publication of books and journals.

"UTHM hopes that with his vast experience, Ruzairi will be able to steer the university into a Global Technopreneur University by 2030," it said.
