A 68-year-old woman was found dead with strangulation marks on her neck in the bathroom of her house in Kampung Baru Sungai Kerak on Tuesday.

The body of Tengku Enong Tengku Muda was found by her neighbour about 2 pm who had become suspicious after not seeing the woman out and about.

State CID chief ACP K.Manoharan said the victim, who was a single mother and lived alone, was found lying face down on the bathroom floor.

"We suspect she was strangled with a rubber hose and believe the motive to be robbery as her gold jewelry and mobile phone were missing," he said at the scene.

Meanwhile, the victim's sister Tengku Omar Tengku Muda, 57, said she was shocked when informed of the incident by the neighbour, adding that she last saw Tengku Enong two days ago at a nearby surau.

The police are appealing for any information on the murder.
