Two men were seriously hurt after being slashed in a brawl at a funeral wake at Ladang Sempah, here early today.

A police spokesman said the incident happened at 2am when a group of men, believed to have blood ties, were gambling during a funeral wake for a relative.

"An argument and a scuffle took place after they got drunk from consuming some liquor."

He said one of the men then grabbed a parang and slashed two people, aged 19 and 20 years.

"One of the victims was hurt in the neck and left hand while another was hurt in the back," he said.

The police spokesman said the two men were sent to Seberang Jaya Hospital for treatment.

Seberang Perai Selatan police chief Supt Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad who confirmed the incident said the victims were in stable condition.

Police have arrested several men believed to be involved in the slashing incident and were tracking down the others.
