The three injured children of Mahani Ngah, one of the six people killed in a single-vehicle accident at KM288.6 of the East Coast Expressway II (LPT2) on Sunday, still do not know the fate that befell their mother and two other siblings.

Mahani's brother-in-law, Mohd Aziruddin Majid said the family members were still waiting for the right time to let them know about their loss.

He said Mahani's husband, Ahmad Nasal Abd Rahman, who was driving the Hyundai Starex MPV they were travelling in, was still traumatised and grieving over the tragedy.

"We are still waiting for the right time to tell them. They are still traumatised but we will continue to support and help these children," he said when contacted by Bernama on Tuesday.

Mohd Aziruddin said those injured, Ahmad Nasal, 52, and his children, Ahmad Shakir, 12, Ahmad Mukriz, three, and Quratul Ain, 14, who were undergoing treatment at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu, were in stable condition.

Ahmad Nasal, a teacher, was reported to have been discharged from Kemaman Hospital after receiving treatment on the day of the incident while Quratul Ain, who suffered leg injuries, had woken up from surgery at 4am yesterday.

"Ahmad Shakir suffers body ache while Ahmad Mukriz has had cuts on his body. Their conditions are improving," he said.

The accident occurred about 6pm after the Chukai toll exit when the MPV driven by Ahmad Nasal skidded and went out of control due to a punctured front tyre and crashed into a road divider before ramming into a pole.

Mahani, 42, and her two other children, Quratulnisa, 11, and Ahmad Nijat, nine, were killed in the accident.

Also killed were Mahani's brother-in-law, Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman, 63, his wife Pauziyah Awang, 56, and the couple's granddaughter, Sofea Adriana Shahruddin, seven. -- Bernama
