Angry that his proposal for marriage was rejected, a youth was believed to have reacted by burning down a part of his ex-girlfriend's house in Taman Zamina Indah Geliga, Kemaman early yesterday morning.

The complainant, the girl's father, only realised the incident at about 9am today after he found part of his roof burnt.

During the incident, the occupants of the house were not home as they were getting treatment at the Kuantan Medical Centre, and as soon as they returned home, were shocked to see a part of the roof burnt with burnt marks on the furniture.

Prior to the incident, the girl, 19, had received threats through telephone calls from the suspect, if she refused to meet him.

A similar incident took place on Friday, with the complainant, 57, finding some clothing placed in a plastic basket outside the house having burnt marks.

The complainant, a manager in a company, suspected the action was committed by his daughter's ex-boyfriend as he had earlier received threats from the suspect through the WhatsApp application.

It is understood that the suspect had gone to the house while the girl's family was not home, following which an argument broke out between them.

Meanwhile, State Criminal Investigations Department Chief ACP Wan Abd Aziz Wan Hamzah when contacted by Bernama, confirmed the report.

He said police had identified the suspect who was from Kampung Alor Lintang, Besut and were tracking him down.
