Former legal aide for Opposition Leader’s Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Tuesday announced that he is vying for the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seat of Kajang.

Yuktes Vijay, who is the founder of the non-government organization (NGO) Take the Lead, confirmed this on his Facebook page.

“Yes I will be contesting for the seat in Kajang. If the Barisan Nasioanl also decide to contest for it, then it's their prerogative, it has nothing to do with me,” he said.

Yuktes, 25, will be going up against Anwar in Kajang as an independent candidate.

In his Twitter, Yuktes said that he does not care if he does not win and lose his deposit, because he just wanted to reduce Anwar’s majority.

At the time of writing, the Opposition leader has not issued a reply.

Yuktes, who was one of Anwar’s lawyers for three years, said that he decided to quit in August 2012, after realising that the man who used to be his idol, is not what he had hoped for.

Yuktes’ manifesto is “MPs who have been selected to perform general election manifesto (GE) of the 12th and 13th.”

The Kajang state seat was previously held by Lee Chin Cheh who obtained 19,571 votes with a majority of 6,824 in a 6 cornered race in the 2013 general election.
