Those are the age of the youngest and the oldest candidates vying for seats in the Sabah state election scheduled for Sept 26.

The 22-year-old Yillson Yanggun is contesting on Barisan Nasional's (BN) ticket for the Tandek seat, in a six-cornered fight, which also involves its incumbent Anita Baranting who won the seat on BN's ticket in the 14th General Election (GE14) but now contesting as an independent candidate.

Also vying for the seat are Andy Villson of Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS), Liensin@Danny Leinsin of Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Hendrus Anding of Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), and Padis Majingkin of the United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO).

In the GE14 in 2018, Anita won the seat by garnering 8,877 votes against three other candidates.

Meanwhile, the oldest candidate, the 75-year-old Taraji Jamdi of Parti Perpaduan Rakyat Sabah is facing a seven-cornered fight in Bugaya.

He is taking on the incumbent Manis Muka Mohd Darah from Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan), Ahmad Kenajaan of the United Sabah National Organisation, Mohd Daud Tampokong of Perikatan Nasional, Jihek Basanu of PCS, and two independents - Rasidan Abd Latiff and Abdul Jan Muammil@Abdul Jim.

In the GE14, Manis Muka won the seat by securing 10,662 votes in a seven-cornered fight.

The Election Commission confirmed 447 candidates were vying for 73 seats contested in the snap polls after the nomination period ended at 10 am today.

Its chairman, Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh said of the total, 404 of male candidates, and 43 others were female.
