KUALA LUMPUR:Political party leaders were today reminded not to continue pressuring Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to reinstate the post of Deputy Prime Minister.

UMNO veteran Tan Sri Mohd Yussof Latiff said they should instead focus on the people's welfare and on how to assist the government face the economic challenges as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

‘In my view, the path taken by the government led by the prime minister of appointing four senior ministers to assist in its administration is good and it has been smooth. Hence, there is no need to jostle for the post .

"The ‘rakyat’ are in dire straits now, a few have even committed suicide, many have lost their jobs….after the 15th General Election, we can think about this (DPM post)," he told reporters, here, today.

Mohd Yussof said at a time when the country was striving to strengthen the economy while tackling the health crisis, demanding for creation of the post was untimely as it could affect the administration of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.

“This post (DPM) is not in the constitution after all, so let's forget about it first and focus on what we are facing now,” he added.
