UMNO supreme council member Datuk Seri Shabery Cheek has questioned PAS over its support for the DAP candidate in the Teluk Intan parliamentary constituency Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud who had strongly
objected the implementation of hudud (Islamic Penal Code).

He said PAS support showed that it was a party thriving under the guise of Islam in the quest for power and advancing its political mileage.

"With a Malay contesting on a DAP ticket rejecting hudud, PAS has been pushed over the edge," he said at a gathering with youths at Kampung Padang Tembak here on Wednesday.

Dyana Sofya was reported as having vowed to oppose the proposed Private Member Bill on Hudud to be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat by Kelantan PAS MPs to pave the way for the implementation of hudud in Kelantan.

Dyana Sofya faces BN's Datuk Mah Siew Keong in the by-election set for May 31.

Speaking at a gathering in Kampung Sungai Kerawai later, Ahmad Shabery chided PAS as a party masquerading as an Islamic party whereas it did not truly uphold Islam.

He said PAS had no established principles and ideology, and would always poison the minds of the people and divide them, particularly Muslims for their political ends.

This can be seen from their futile attempt to implement hudud Kelantan, he added.
