Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar said the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) will nominate Mohd Faiz Subri for the 2016 Puskas FIFA Award next week.

The wonder goal scored by Mohd Faiz, 29, who plays for Super League team Penang, has been compared to a goal scored by former Brazil and Real Madrid left back Roberto Carlos.

Introduced by FIFA in 2009, the Puskas Award, is given to the most beautiful goal scored in the world throughout the year.

Faiz's outrageous freekick from 35 metres out reminded football fans of a similar wonder goal scored by Roberto Carlos against France in 1998.

Faiz's rocket free kick swerved into the goal leaving the goalkeeper in awe as Penang thrashed Pahang 4-1 in a Super League match at City Stadium on Feb 16.

"The ministry and the National Athletes Welfare Foundation (YAKEB) will determine those who qualify for the affordable housing project which will take three to four years to complete," Khairy said.
