Holly Holm's reign as UFC women's bantamweight champion lasted one match after she was beaten by Miesha Tate via submission in an exciting bout at UFC 196, Fox Sports reported Sunday.

The victory handed Tate her first title win in Ultimate Fighting Championship, while Holm suffered her first loss in her professional mixed martial arts career.

In the beginning of the match, Holm looked calm as she used her distance and range to keep Tate on the end of her punches and kicks, launching a series of kicks to the body and legs to her opponent.

Tate managed to block the shots while returning them with a couple of hard punches in the opening round.

The other rounds saw Holm dominating the fight, leaving Tate in desperation mode especially in final five minutes.

But Holm made one slip up that allowed Tate to grab onto a body lock before she quickly dragged the fight back to the mat.

Holm tried to free herself from Tate's grip, but Tate was wrapped tight around her neck, in a a rear naked choke that left Holm unconscious.

The referee rushed in to stop the fight at 3:30 in the fifth round to pronounce Tate the winner, stripping Holm from her brief championship title in Las Vegas.

November last year, Holm tamed the world's most feared female prizefighter Ronda Rousey with a stunning knockout victory for the UFC bantamweight title in Australia.

She made a blistering start to the title fight at Melbourne's Etihad Stadium, becoming the first fighter to win a round against her fellow American, a former judo champion.
