National badminton champion Datuk Lee Chong Wei is the only Malaysian representative in the semifinals of the Korean Open Championship Super Series 2014 at the Olympics Gymnasium 2, Seoul.

In the quarterfinals today, the world number one singles player, who is the championship’s top seed, needed only 35 minutes to beat seventh seed, Du Pengyu from China 21-9 and 21-12 to advance to the semifinals.

Chong Wei is expected to face a tough opponent and the championship’s fifth seed, Kenichi Tago after the Japanese shuttler sprang a surprise by defeating the fourth seed from Denmark, Jan O Jorgensen; 21-11 and 21-14 in another quarterfinal match.

The national men’s doubles pair of Goh V Shem and Lim Khim Wah lost 10-21 and 9-21 to the championship’s top pair, Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen of Denmark.

The Danish pair is scheduled to face the fourth seed from Japan, Hiroyuki Endo and Kenichi Hayakawa who beat Korea’s pair of Lee Yong Dae and Yoo Yeon Seong 16-21, 23-21 and 21-15.
