Datuk Wan Ahmad Nizam Wan Abdul Hamid has decided to step down as the Terengganu Football Association (TFA) president effective today following the Terengganu football team's poor results.

Wan Ahmad Nizam made the announcement after a meeting with Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman and the TFA council, here.

However, his resignation will only affect the post of president and not his positions in any other committee.

Wan Ahmad Nizam said during the meeting, it was also decided that Ahmad Razif will assume the post of acting president until the Annual General Meeting next year.

"From the matches that I have watched...I could see a drop in the commitment and performance of players. I therefore decided to step down and allow the Menteri Besar to take over.

"I hope the players will take note of the current changes and improve their performance and qualify for the quarterfinals of the Malaysia Cup," he told reporters after the meeting.

Apart from Ahmad Razif, State Youth, Sports and Human Resource committee chairman Datuk Rozi Mamat was also present.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Razif who accepted the post of acting president described Wan Ahmad Nizam as a president who had dedicated himself to the development of football in the state.

"We actually cannot blame anyone for the drop in performance, especially Datuk Wan Ahmad Nizam because not only Terengganu but other teams are also experiencing a similar drop in performance.

"We still have five matches, including two home matches...so we are hoping for changes and a miracle in the next five matches," he said.

Ahmad Razif also assured that both Terengganu and T-Team would continue to feature in the M-League.
