Construction companies and contractors allowed to operate during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period need to provide body temperature or thermal scanner at the construction site.

Senior Minister (Infrastructure), Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, said it was part of the standard operating procedure (SOP) and guidelines.

“Contractors or companies that are approved to operate should provide body temperature scanners or thermal scanners and perform screening for workers with symptoms of cough, sore throat or shortness of breath.

"Body temperature and symptom screening should be done daily at the entrance to the construction site or premises," Fadillah told a press conference on SOP in construction during the MCO here on Wednesday.

He added that if a worker at a construction site was found to be COVID-19 positive, the whole project would be stopped.

To date, he said, the government has received more than 19,000 applications from companies in the construction industry to operate throughout the MCO.

Of these, 1,856 applications were approved while 7,387 applications failed.

In the meantime, he said working hours at the construction site was set from 8 am to 5.30 pm for five days a week.
