The Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) will shift its focus and tap the tourism sector to create more business opportunities to achieve its investment target of RM10 billion for this year besides the manufacturing and agriculture sectors.

Its Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Redza Rafiq, said the manufacturing and agriculture sectors had always been the driving investment forces for the Northern Corridor Economic Region.

"In the pipeline this year, however, there will be a significant shift in tourism sector, not only in hotels but new areas which can create more opportunities in a sustainable manner," he told a media briefing here Tuesday.

Redza said more tourist activities will be created in Langkawi and Penang tourist hot spots, new areas in Taiping and the Belum-Temenggor tropical rain forest.
