Ten rally permits have been issued to candidates contesting the Bukit Gelugor by-election since nomination day (Monday).

North East district police chief Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said all 10 permits for campaign during the parliamentary by-election were applied by the DAP.

"We advise the party and individuals who want to hold rally to apply for permits to enable us to monitor and avoid them from being held near each other to avoid clashes," he told Bernama when contacted here today.

Mior Faridalathrash said campaign by the political party and candidates over the past five days had been smooth.

Four police reports had been received, including by independent candidate Mohamed Nabi Bux Mohd Nabi Abdul Sathar who claimed losing 330 campaign materials.

"Three police reports were related to the alleged racist remark made by independent candidate Abu Backer Sidek Mohamad Zan," he said.

On Monday, two Tamil newspaper reporters lodged police reports claiming that Abu Backer Sidek had offended the Indian community and him to retract the remark.

Abu Backer Sidek who used the work pariah during a press conference said that he was referring to those who held street protests and not at the Indian community.
