A man found dead with stab wounds on the chest, near a junction in Jalan Anggerik, Kempas, is believed to have been involved in a fight here, early Tuesday morning.

Johor Baharu North district police chief, ACP Mohd Taib Ahmad said the victim, believed to be a 30-year-old unemployed man, was found lying on the ground by the public.

Earlier, police had received information about a fight in the area, he said in a statement here yesterday.

"Upon arriving at the scene, members of the patrol team saw two men fleeing in a car parked at a nearby petrol station," said Mohd Taib.

However, after a while, the suspects' vehicle failed to be detected and they managed to escape.

"The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and taken to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital here," he said.

Mohd Taib said police are still investigating the motive whether the victim was fighting or defending himself from his attackers (the two men).

He also confirmed that the victim had been arrested last year for involvement in drug activities.
