The four members of a family who perished in a two-vehicle collision at the 106km Jalan Kuantan-Segamat stretch last night were buried in a single grave Saturday evening.

Mohd Zaki Mamat, 47, his wife, Jamilah Hussen, 46, and two of their children, Muhammad Zamil Izuddin, 17, and Muhammad Zamil Syazwan, 14, were laid to rest at the As-Syakirin Bachang Muslim Cemetery here at 6.25pm.

More than 300 well-wishers, including family members and friends attended the funeral.

Earlier, the bodies arrived in Melaka about 4.40pm from the Muadzam Shah Hospital in Pahang before prayers were held at the As-Syakirin Bachang Mosque.

In the 8.50pm crash, the victims were killed on the spot while the couple's two other children, Siti Nurjeha, 18, and Siti Nur Nabilah, 10, were seriously injured.

The injured children were warded at the hospital. Mohd Zaki and his family were heading to his mother's house in Kelantan from their home in Merlimau, Melaka when the crash occurred.

Meanwhile, Jamilah's mother, Zabedah Dalip, 76, said she was willing to take care of her two grand-daughters who were very attached to her.

She said she was informed of the incident by Siti Nurjeha who contacted her about 9pm.

"She (Siti Nurjeha) said they met with an accident...she could not locate her parents because it was dark and she was scared. She also asked her aunt to come over there," Zabedah told reporters when approached at the funeral.

She then received a second call about 10.30pm, informing her that her daughter, son-in-law and their two sons were killed in the accident.

Jamilah's colleague, Haryani Samsi, 33, who had known her since 11 years ago described her as a kind and friendly person.
