Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry's secretary-general Datuk Seri Alias Ahmad has been appointed the National Security Council Secretary.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa, in a statement here today, said Youth and Sports Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Jamil Salleh would take as Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry's secretary-general.

Ali also announced the appointment of the Youth and sports Ministry deputy secretary-general (International and Management) Datuk Lokman Hakim Ali, 45, as the ministry's secretary-general.

All the appointments take effect tomorrow, he said.

"I am confident that the qualification, experience and knowledge, as well as credibility of the three officers can bring their respective organisations to greater heights in realising the country's vision and aspiration," he said.

Alias, 57, who holds a master's degree in strategic and defence studies and a bachelor's degree in arts from Universiti Malaya, joined the civil service as Administrative and Diplomatic Officer in 1984.

Ali said Alias had vast experience in security management, economy, development and human resource management and the state and federal levels.

He was appointed Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry's secretary-general on Feb 5, 2014.

His previous posts included as Immigration Director-General and Under Secretary of several divisions at the Home Ministry.

As for Jamil, 57, he joined the civil service as Youth and Sports Officer in 1983 and the following year, appointed as Administrative and Diplomatic Officer.

He holds master's degree in Sociology and Anthropology from Universiti Malaya.

Prior to his appointment as Youth and Sports Ministry secretary-general on June 12, 2013 , Jamil was director at the Home Ministry.

Meanwhile, Lokman Ali, who has a master's degree in economy from Claremont Graduate University, California, and a master's degree in economy from the University of Southern California, both in the United States, joined the civil service as Administrative and Diplomatic Officer in 1994.

He had served as Special Functions Officer to Deputy Prime Minister and also as senior private secretary to International Trade and Industry Minister.
