An express bus driver sustained injuries to the face while 14 other passengers escaped unhurt in a collision with a trailer at KM27 of Jalan Gua Musang-Kuala Krai, here Thursday.

Gua Musang police chief Supt Rajab Ahad Ismail said the incident occurred around 1am, when the bus was on the way to Kuala Lumpur from Kota Bharu.

"The bus driver is believed to have lost control of the vehicle, causing the bus to enter the opposite lane before colliding with a trailer and plunging into a 10-metre deep ravine on the left side of the road," he told reporters here Thursday.

The driver, Nik Hassan Mahmud, 47, who came from Jeli, is being treated at the Gua Musang Hospital (HGM), while the trailer driver and attendant escaped unscathed.

Rajab Ahad said the incident also involved a family of six who were travelling in a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), in the same direction as the bus.

"The MPV that was situated behind the bus also crashed into the same trailer. However, they escaped unharmed," he said. - BERNAMA
