KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 2,253 new COVID-19 positive cases were recorded today, bringing the cumulative number of infections in the country to 295,951 with 27,994 active cases.

Director-General of Health, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, said of the total, 2,246 cases involved local transmission while seven cases were imported.

He said the highest number of infection cases were recorded in Selangor with 633 cases, followed by Perak (545), Johor (276), Kuala Lumpur (122) and Penang (93).

He said a total of 201 cases were being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with 93 cases requiring respiratory assistance while a total of 11 deaths or 0.38 per cent related to COVID-19 were recorded today.

At the same time, he said there were 3,085 recovery cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the cumulative number of cases recovered to 266,846 or 90.16 per cent of the total cases.

• 2,253 new COVID-19 positive cases recorded within 24 hours.

• 11 deaths were reported in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Sarawak, Sabah and Johor involving patients aged 36 to 78 years.

• 10 new clusters were detected involving eight workplace clusters, two within the community.

• Four clusters were detected in Selangor, Johor (two), and one each in Sabah, Penang, Kelantan and Perak.

• 16 clusters ended today.
