Terengganu police regret the action of certain media organisation who tried to sensationalise the death of two-year-old Nursyafiqah Adawiyah Abdullah who was found in an empty house at Seberang Paka, Dungun, on Tuesday.

Terengganu police chief ACP K. Manoharan reminded all media practitioners to report only based on facts.

“Until now, tests carried out by the doctors did not show any sign of sexual abuse, rape or sodomy,” he said in a press conference on Thursday.

“However, this matter is not conclusive and not confirmed yet as there is a need to get further confirmation from the toxicology department,” he added.

A television station (not Astro AWANI) had on Wednesday reported that the victim was raped and brutally sodomised.

Manoharan also stressed that the police had never issued any statement regarding the victim’s post mortem report.

“The police had never issued any statement regarding the victim’s injuries or whether she was raped or sodomised,” he added.

He reiterated that the police will bring to justice those who have been circulating the victim’s photo at the crime scene.

He said the police are still investigating the source of the photo which have been circulating on Facebook and blogs.

Meanwhile, the body of Norsyafiqah was laid to rest at Kampung Nibong Muslim Cemetery, Paka, after Maghrib prayers on Wednesday.

Her body was claimed by her uncle, Mohd Nor Mamat after post-mortem was carried out at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital Forensic Unit at 5pm.

Meanwhile, victim’s mother Semek Hitam, 58 said she prayed that God will punish those who murdered the child.

On Tuesday, police detained four individuals including the victim’s mother, Rabiatul Adawiyah Mamat, her 25-year-old boyfriend and two other men.

They have been remanded for seven days to facilitate investigation according to Section 302 of the Penal Code.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

Rabiatul had on Saturday lodged a report that her daughter was missing and claimed to have been kidnapped by a man when she left her in a car in front of a restaurant at Kuala Paka.

But she later confessed to have lodged the report after being forced to do so by her boyfriend.

Police investigation found that the boyfriend was the last person to have been with the victim after taking her out on Friday with Rabiatul’s permission.
