KUALA LUMPUR:Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal has called for unity among politicians as a solution to today's crisis.

In a statement, the former Sabah chief minister stressed that a state of emergency is not an option for the country but unity is the solution in the face of these difficult times.

"I plead to all the leaders in our beloved country to put aside our differences and work as one to overcome the greatest challenge that we are facing, and to put King, country and the people first before all other issues," he said on Sunday.

The Semporna MP thinks the country should continue to progress and the people should not be disadvantaged.

Expounding that unity is the way forward, Shafie stressed that this is the time to put aside our differences including religion and race and join forces to fight the real enemy.

"We may not agree on many things most of the time, but at this moment, I think we can agree on one thing - we love our country.

"May God give us all the wisdom and guidance to choose the right and correct path for the benefit of the country," he said.

"The collapsing of domestic and global economy (due to the impact of COVID-19) which is devastating and affecting the livelihood of every Malaysian, is the real enemy," he added.

On Saturday, Muar Member of Parliament, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman urged all parties to set aside their egos and break the party walls for the sake of Malaysia.
