KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested 152 individuals on suspicion of participating in the European football championship (EURO) 2020 illegal gambling, in an operation conducted from June 10 to 21.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director, Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan said police also seized betting money totalling RM115,132 and various equipment including electronic devices used to record stakes such as 24 computers, 11 laptops, 166 mobile phones and nine EURO 2020 match schedule lists.

"The main focus of the enforcement operation is to curb and combat this activity, and act against the bookies or punters, as well as the places that organise the EURO 2020 gambling," he said in a statement, today.

Abd Jalil said most of gambling activities were carried out online due to the Movement Control Order to avoid detection by the authorities.

He said police would intensify monitoring in preventing EURO 2020 illegal betting, and he called on the public to channel information on this immoral activity.
