The Melaka Health Department has confirmed that the water fountain at the Dataran 1Malaysia, Klebang here is free from the Rotavirus infection.

State Health Director, Datuk Dr Ghazali Othman said that from the first and second tests on the water samples from the fountain, the laboratory tests proved negative and the water was free from the presence of the virus that could affect public health.

He said that so far, the department had not received any new case on the Rotavirus infection.

"The health department will have discussions with the local authorities focusing on preventive aspects to deter the public from bathing at the pool as it was not the place for bathing," he told Bernama today.

He suggested that the local authorities tightened enforcement to deter the people from bathing at the pool. -- Bernama
