The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar has denied saying the gunmen who shot MyWatch chairman R. Sri Sanjeevan on Saturday are his friends.

Khalid, in a tweet last night, said he never said that Sanjeevan was shot by his friends, as reported by Free Malaysia Today (FMT).

According to FMT, Khalid said the suspect is a friend of the victim and not an assassin.

“No, they are not hired killers. They are his friends,” said Khalid according to FMT.

In the incident, Sri Sanjeevan was driving his silver BMW, with the friend in tow, when he decided to wind down the driver's window for a puff at Taman Awana Indah.

At that juncture, two men on a red Yamaha LC motorcycle and wearing full-faced crash helmets, drew alongside the car before the pillion rider shot the victim in the right side of the abdomen at close range.

Currently Sanjeevan is at the Serdang Hospital and the police will start taking statements from him when he is fully recovered.
