The Kelantan government plans to table a Private Member's Bill in Parliament in March to seek approval for amendments to the Syariah Criminal Code II 1993 to enable hudud to be implemented in the state.

Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said the special sitting of the state assembly scheduled for last Dec 29 on the amendments had to be postponed when floods hit the state.

"We plan to table this Private Member's Bill (on hudud) at the ordinary sitting of Parliament in March," he said after attending a state executive council meeting at Kota Darul Naim Complex here Wednesday.

Mohd Amar said among the things sought through the bill was raising the penalties for offences in line with Quranic rules and the Sunnah (the way of the Prophet).

Besides announcing earlier that it would table a bill for the implementation of hudud, the Kelantan government had also formed a state-level technical committee over a year ago and sent six representatives to sit on the national-level technical committee to study the implementation of hudud.
